That's how you say "hello, friends" in Spanish, right?
Hey everyone, my name is Amy Finet. I am from Greenfield, IN and am finishing up my freshman year at Ball State University. As you could probably tell from the first line in this blog, I'm not a Spanish major! I am actually undecided about my major and still have no inkling as to where God wants me, but not for lack of trying. Music Education, English Education, and Elementary Education have all been "declared" as my major at one point or another this year. None of them really felt like my "niche," though, so I'm still waiting for some guidance from up above.
I couldn't find a job on campus this year, but I spent my last two years in high school working at a Chinese restaurant called Dragon Palace. Yes, It was an awesome job. Yes, I got free food. Yes, it was delicious. And yes, I miss it dearly! Since I don't have a job that fills up a large portion of my time, I like to spend my time doing some of the things I love. Of course I always love hanging out with my friends, but it's a close tie for my second favorite hobby between reading and singing. I couldn't even begin to tell you what my favorite book is; there are too many to choose from! But like many others on the team, so I've noticed, I'm getting ready to start reading Crazy Love. I've been singing since I was little and have been involved in some great groups, activities, and more. Feel free to ask me about them if you're interested!
I've been on a mission trip once before, but it wasn't out of the country. My sophomore year in high school I went to Knoxville, TN with my church's youth group, and we helped repaint and rebuild a women's halfway house. It was a great trip, but I've always wanted MORE. I felt called to Nicaragua this summer after a class I took last semester that focused on Central America. We discussed and watched several documentaries about the people there and their struggles, and my heart just broke for them. I can't wait to show all of the children we meet how much our God loves them! I am so unbelieveably excited about this summer but also somewhat nervous. I want to serve and glorify our God in more ways than I ever would have thought was possible, but it's scary to think where that could take me in my life, you know?
Whenever those thoughts cross my mind, I like referring to one of my favorite verses: "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future... You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.'"
Definitely looking forward to meeting you all this June :)
